If you have the capacity to sew a straight line, then you have the skills to refresh your bedroom. Just by finding some great fabric you can transform your bedroom into an oasis. You can create any number of bedroom furnishings by simply sewing a straight line. Pick fabrics and patterns that work well together, and create your own look with bedding and curtains.
Straight Line Drapes.
Start by measuring your windows. When deciding how long your curtains should be, measure the curtain rod to the floor, and then add the depth of the pocket plus 1/2 inch and the hem plus one-half inch. To determine how wide you want the fabric to be, measure the width of your windows and then add an additional six inches; this will produce one curtain panel. Every window will need two panels. Take notice of the direction of the fabric’s print when choosing your fabric, and be certain that it will go with other components of the room.
As you prepare your panel, first hem the sides of each panel. With the right side facing down fold ½ inch of fabric towards you and iron. Next, fold one-and-one half inches of fabric toward you to make the hem and then iron into place. Your next step is to sew a straight line down the edge of each panel; this forms the hem. On the top edge, fold over ½ inch and iron, and then fold over a pocket for curtain rod. Now iron and sew another straight line on each panel. Moving to the bottom hem, fold the material over 1/2 inch and then fold over the width of the hem; iron again. Once you sew a straight line across the bottom hem of each panel, your curtain panels are completed. It really is that easy.
Straight Line Table Skirting.
Cover your bedside table with a table skirt for a dressy look. Choose a fabric that coordinates with the curtains that you just completed. Lend your room a less cluttered look by using a table skirt to hide items beneath the table. Simply cut the fabric to size, turn under the hem and sew.
Straight Line Bed Skirting.
You can dress up your bed using a bed skirt and hide under bed storage containers and your ugly box spring mattress. To make your bed skirt measure the length and width of your bed, and add an inch to each side. The base of the skirt can be made using an old flat sheet. Next measure from the floor to the top of the box spring in order to get the height of the bedskirt and then add an surplus inch for hemming. Cut three lengths of your bed skirt, one for the right side, one for the left side and one for the foot of the bed, and leave a one-inch seam to connect the pieces.
Now sew the three pieces together and fold under the hem. Iron and sew the hem. Attach the bed skirt piece to the flat sheet taking care to line up the corner seams with the corners of the flat sheet. You can invariably opt to leave the bed skirt panels open, and then hem all sides before you attach them.
Now that you have sewn a straight line to totally different bedroom you can then finish off your new look with a stylish copper metal wall art, abstract wood wall art or other styles of metal wall art decor and sculptures that fit your taste.
